Ever since my life hit the dumps in early 2015, I’ve been neglecting this site. It just got incredibly hard to bring myself to write anything anymore. Even once I got my shit more or less back on track, I found it difficult to get back into the hold habit of writing 120% correct anime opinions, even though I still follow seasonal shows. Don’t think I haven’t felt bad about it, my conscience has been nagging on me for months now. I wanted to get back to writing, but I needed some kind of a push, and what happened to Jinx! a few weeks ago may have been just that. As you might know, a hacker managed to take over the site due to my lack of oversight, by brute forcing an old admin account which I should have deleted. The damage was minimal but to be on the safe side I nuked the entire site down to the databases from the server panel. I had taken a backup XML recently, so I thought it wouldn’t be a big deal to restore things once dust had settled.
Unfortunately, the WP XML importer was unable to import almost anything – the only posts it managed were all drafts, private posts, and those published in 2008 and earlier, which are so cringe inducing that they shouldn’t be allowed to exist anyway. Until I can figure out a way to parse the XML correctly, I’m afraid all the posts from the past 9 years (God, it has been so long) are gone. It’s a sad state of affairs, but maybe something that will motivate me to keep things going.
For those new here, I am Nova (NovaJinx, Nobar, etc.), a 30-something edgypants anime reviewer, amateur photographer, and a heavy industry cog. I like quality jazz, old rock albums, collecting shitty old cameras, traveling, and anime titties. I’ve ran Jinx! since May, 2007, and my antics have taken me from the Pacific Northwest to Singapore to Japan. While not planning shipments and cursing at shitty CAD modules, I enjoy sipping scotch, developing film, scaring normies with big-ass teles, playing crappy Japanese browser games, and occasionally boating.
What kind of loser brings a USN cruiser to a night battle?
It’s been a rough ride over the years, but there are no breaks on this train. Keep your barf bags handy, gents, we’re only getting started.
