I apologize to the faithful few of you who are still out there waiting for an update. I know I’m supposed to be doing my part to battle the utterly terrible anime opinions dominating what’s left of the blogosphere, but for the last year I’ve been busy with soldiering on at work as my employer kept working me to the bone while dangling a steady contract before my poverty-stricken eyes (“God damnit pal, if you want this job you better reach out and grab it“). Also photography keeps taking an increasing share of my spare time and energy, and the high season’s just around the corner again. But after this month my contract will finally become a steady one and I’ve finished moving into my first non-shithole apartment since 2014, so hopefully things will settle down a little and I can get back to writing again.

It’s been pretty dead here, but I can at least be bothered to fart out a season conclusion post. My career is closing in on its expiration date anyways and things have gotten a lot calmer from the nightmarish summer. So here’s anime I finished this season, plus one that I didn’t as a bonus.

I wish I could say this blog wasn’t dead, but working life has left me a dried husk of a man I used to be and I struggle to find energy for any pastime activities. But I have been keeping up with the season the best I could, and here are the results.
I ended up getting a pretty late start on the season, but on the other hand this made it easier to judge the shows a little bit before placing them on the watchlist. As always, work is weighing heavily on me although the worst should be over soon. Just got to think of the money and how all of this will feel like a distant bad dream when I’m chilling and burning film in Kyushu this Christmas.

I’m way behind the times yet again as the Spring season has already started, but here’s a wrap-up of the past Winter.

That’s it for the x girls doing n things comedy duo. These two played a significant part in keeping at least a bit of my sanity intact while riding my soon to be trainwreck of a career. Lately all I’ve been hoping for is falling into a coma and waking up in September when this hell is finally over. Nothing good has ever come from following ambition, but I just don’t seem to learn that lesson. Thank god I still have my Japanese animes.

I forgot that the first season was only 10 episodes and therefore didn’t expect the S2 to already deliver its grande finale. But oh well, more time for rewatching Outlaw Star.

Hi, I’m posting this so at least I’ll have something marked in the archives for February. I’ve had very little time for anime for the last few weeks as my lazy and uneventful student life came to a sudden end. I was called in to cover for a coworker’s holiday week, and I expected little else than making some much-needed pocket money on a familiar job. Last thing I expected was to be hauled in front of the CEO and being offered a vaguely defined carrot in exchange for some very heavy project work. I expected to smoothly sail into the regular ranks of the company after finishing up my degree in one more year, but now I’m strapped on a career rocket with little idea where the hell I’m headed. All I know is that I can’t afford to blow this thing. If I end up in another career dead end, I’m not sure if I can muster up the effort to do anything more than forest work and NEETbux for the rest of my days. Although to be fair lately I’ve been thinking maybe that was exactly what I should have been doing all this time.

I expected a troubled start for the season because of work, and then my schedule got further complicated by my first attempts at C-41 processing which has taken up a lot of my spare time recently. In the meantime, the season has reached the point at which the shows have more or less proven themselves or died trying. My watchlist went through a lot of changes from the original partly due to my slightly increased watching habits in despite the frantic film processing. And also some figurine stuff.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome is a dangerous condition which leaves individuals bankrupt both financially and morally, able to communicate only through hyperbolic arguments, tech jargon and buzzwords, and makes them generally insufferable company in any hobbyist setting. Its onset may also be difficult to detect until it has entered advanced stages at which attempting an intervention is inadvisable and dangerous due to the elevated risk of uncontrollable sperging. And while GAS is more common than hemp farms in Helsinki and affects nearly any hobbyist setting where the activity has any sort of dependency on manufactured goods, I think the only field where it’s even worse than in photography would be the murky realm of audiophiles. Crazed hifi-enthusiasts’ quasi-religious drivel has long been one of the most recognized form of GAS and therefore it’s no surprise it was picked as a theme for this week’s Akiba’s Trip. I raise my hat to whoever wrote this scene, because it walks through the different steps, and ends in the eventual moment of reconciliation. Like so:
