There, I said it. And so happened that I dropped every show in the season except Highschool of the Dead and Amagami SS. As much as I have always tried to think that mostly seasons are as good or bad as they have always been, I just could no longer ignore the fact that watching most of the shit around this time felt nothing but a waste of time. It may be due to the apparent trend in the modern anime industry to cut from scriptwriting and directing. All’s fine and dandy as long as the shit looks decent and has some surefire otaku-bait elements. Though I’m sure otaku don’t care either way, I’m getting fed up with this spoon-fed bulk entertainment.

Just a little something that happened recently in Japanese cartoons. Because I haven’t picspammed enough this month.

Summer 2010 Season Midterm Grades
The season’s around halfway there now so it’s time for this again, kids. For once I am inclined to think that this season has been somewhat sub-par, though most likely that is simply because this season lacks enough shows that really spark my interest. Sure I’ve been able to follow through a whole bunch but so far I have only found HOTD and Amagami to be something to look forward to every week.

Summer 2010 Season First Round-Up

*BONER*
Since the season has now reached its first quarter or so, I suppose I should round up everything I have to say about it just for the sake of clarity. In the end eight shows made it to my watchlist, and most of them are pretty lightweight stuff as someone pointed out earlier. It’s true that usually I favor deep, complex, and/or abstract shows, but it’s been the hottest summer in Finland since the year 1880 and my workplace has thus turned into a piece of Southeast Asia with close to +40C and high humidity. As such relaxing and light shows are pretty much all I can take on my free time.

The Obligatory Birthday Post – 25 Years of Rage (Also Summer 2010 Watchlist)

So I’ve turned 25. Better start looking for those hearing aid models, maybe they have one with a 3.5mm audio input and bluetooth. Anyway, just bear with the rant or skip over, my finalized summer season watchlist follows after I’m done with this. Now I don’t know how bloggers usually deal with their birthdays so I did a bit of research. Seems like most either disregard it altogether or alternatively write a few lines of banal crap. Well, looking back to my own birthday post published back in 2007 (don’t bother, it’s locked) I can’t say that I was much of an exception, though I spent about 1000 words at it.

First Impressions on Strike Witches 2
If this is going to be anything like its predecessor, it’s way too soon to say things about it yet. GONZO’s mangled, rotten corpse has been kicked aside and AIC is in charge, but not surprisingly the production crew appears to be mostly the same. So for all we know there might as well be another bunch of skippable banalities followed by a couple good episodes and lastly a supernova-scale plot hole.
Sorry, got too many actually good shows to blog to say anything more about this one. Worry not though, if there’s a show that’s going to get fucktons of blog posts across the ‘sphere then it’s this one.
The Aftermath of a Strike Witches Dare – Kids, Don’t Try This At Home!

Say hello to my Strike Witches face.
A while back mura, my First Reader Ever, dared me to watch the entire first season of Strike Witches. I had dropped the show way back when after the first four episodes for being bland and poorly animated ghetto version of Sky Girls, and I never had any intention to get back to it. But since there’s another season coming and it will once again be a hot topic of discussion, I thought I might as well try it in the name of science. This post is full of spoilers but it’s not like you need to watch this show if you haven’t already. Seriously, it’s probably better that you don’t.

An Early Look At Summer 2010

#AB oldfags, I hail to thee.
I’ve been trying to keep a habit of mostly disregarding the upcoming season until it’s only a couple weeks away, but a conversation between old- and ancientfags on #animeblogger (good to have you back impz, Mellow and Akai) lead me to explore the summer season a bit ahead of schedule. So I decided I might as well use the opportunity to crank out a post about my first impressions.
