Winter 2012 Wrap-up and Closing Impressions

Having felt like shit for the last couple weeks lead to much less posting that I intended, for which you have my apologies. Last week I was prescribed with some new meds that made me feel awesome…for a few days, and then whatever’s bothering me made a triumphant return. As such a few series ended up having no conclusion post, and given that it’s already damn late I might as well just make an ol’ wrap-up post and call it a day. Fuck this spring, I haven’t been ill for almost seven god damn years, and now this. I hate this year already.

Sushi Opera Fatso Holmes Ep 2 – Now Served With a Hint of Meta

After a weekend of con-going few things hit the spot like Milky Holmes, though the second episode was somewhat weak on the comedy. Although after Kill Me Baby’s nearly lethal unfunniness just anything goes – let alone Guilty Crown’s continuing awfulness. Speaking of which, it’s kind of sad yet amusing how apparently nobody is subbing Milky Holmes while some five groups are wasting their time on Kill Me Baby. Fansubbers just never miss a chance to display their classy taste, do they?

First Impressions on Farmer Opera Milky Holmes II

What would be better to start a new season with than Milky Holmes II, continuation to JC Staff’s first actually good anime series since uhh…Starship Operators? I had my doubts about how a second season would do as the OVAs were pretty bland, and that generally comedies tend to have trouble staying fresh beyond their original run (see: Ika Musume 2) but thankfully it seems that JC Staff delivers once again. Too bad fansubbers are too busy screwing cripples, I can only wonder how much more badass raw watching us poor bloggers will end up doing this season.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes Ends

Suffice to say that this is the best thing JC Staff has managed to fart out in quite a while. In fact I had hard time believing they of all studios were doing this, given how creative the show is with its various gags. Even though MH is basically the same kind of media franchise milking as Angel Beats!, it manages to be something more than just sub-par otaku fap fodder intended for quick cash. Absurd situations and characters are the name of the game in Milky Holmes, and it was nice to see that the show kept this going to the very last minutes. We don’t get enough comedies of this type nowadays, anime or otherwise.

So Yeah, About the Fall Season So Far…

I guess it’s about time for some sort of summary post now that the season is close to done. All in all this season has been a great improvement to its predecessor, which isn’t saying very much but anyway. At the very least there has been a good selection of successful comedy around this time if nothing else. That all said, not very many shows survived on my schedule.

Milky Holmes Episode 8 – Boyoyooooon

Plenty of Twenty’s three feet nipples in this episode. For some reason I was reminded of the Acid-Spitting Tactical Nuke Jello Breasts from QUALITY’s Blade. One of the lulziest eps so far in any case. Now that Panty & Stocking has gotten stale Milky Holmes gets to shine alongside Ika Musume as comedy gold.
